Our monthly update day

On the first Tuesday of every month, we play updates for the operating system and the server services you use on your cluster. In the following we would like to provide you with all necessary information about the exact procedure and possible risks of our update day.

Procedure

The updates are applied between 06:30 - 09:00 in the morning. Depending on the update, services may be restarted by the update.

Possible risks

We do not expect any incompatibilities with your application due to the package updates. However, please test the functionality independently once after the updates, as there is a possibility that your application will react differently to the update.

Escalation plan

If a failure occurs as a result of an update, we can switch to the passive server with the 06:00 dataset within 1-5 minutes. By keeping the passive server ready, we avoid the need to import a backup. Rollback is kept to a minimum with this procedure.

Other notes

If major and minor numbers of the packages change, we will inform you about this change before the update. In case of critical security vulnerabilities such as Heartbleed, Ghost or ShellShock, we will respond immediately after our analysis, which may require services to be restarted.
