The dashboard is ideal for getting a quick initial overview of any performance issues. It runs directly within the hosting panel without any manual setup required, which suits us down to the ground given the number of customers we have. It’s difficult for us to quantify exactly how much time the APM saves us in day-to-day troubleshooting, but it’s certainly several hours.

Head of Architects bei 8mylez GmbH

When it comes to performance optimisation, we don’t want to have to integrate loads of external tools before we can tell the client anything. With APM, we get immediate insights into where the problems lie and can implement initial optimisations more quickly than before.

Performance issues cost revenue.
So does the search for them.

When an online shop starts to run slowly, the blame game begins. The agency, the hosting provider and the shop operator pass the buck between them. Without a shared database, hours are wasted, support tickets remain unresolved and the customer is left waiting.

  • Hours spent troubleshooting: Senior developers are occupied with troubleshooting rather than further development – the cost of which must be borne by either the agency or the shop operator.
  • Expensive third-party tools: External licences drive up costs further and complicate the setup.
  • Latency is simply accepted: Performance compromises become the norm. Not because they are acceptable, but because nobody knows where to start.

APM Features

Powered by Tideways and maxcluster

We are delighted to have now integrated the tried-and-tested Tideways Monitoring directly into maxcluster. We are already identifying performance bottlenecks for customers who do not have their own APM tool – issues we would otherwise have overlooked – and are now able to optimise systems even more effectively on a proactive basis.

Managing Director & Head of Marketing at integer_net GmbH

Server monitoring is important, but it doesn’t answer the question of why a shop is running slowly. Particularly after updates or deployments, we don’t want to have to guess whether the problem lies with the server, the code, an SQL query or an external API. With APM, we can see this directly at application level. This cuts down on discussions, saves time and, above all, helps to identify problems before they result in a loss of revenue for the retailer.

Who APM powered by Tideways is designed for.

Web agencies & developers: You’ve been searching for hours. The server is showing green and the client is waiting.

Without APM

The checkout process slows down after a deployment. CPU usage is normal, and the logs show no issues. You disable plugins one by one, check the cache configurations, contact your hosting provider – and in the process lose half a working day that you cannot bill for.

With APM powered by Tideways

You open the Managed Centre, see in the Transactions overview that GET /checkout takes an average of 800 ms, and in External Services that a payment provider has been responding three times more slowly since the last release. Cause identified – in a matter of minutes.

Shop owners & e-commerce leads: Your marketing is up and running. Your shop isn’t.

Without APM

You’ve launched a flash sale: the traffic’s there, but conversion rates are plummeting. The hosting provider says the server is running smoothly. The agency is still looking into it.

With APM powered by Tideways

You can see straight away from the status code gauges whether any 5xx errors are occurring during checkout. No waiting for ticket replies. No guesswork. A shared database for everyone involved.

Agency owner & account manager: “Improved performance” isn’t a valid argument. Before-and-after data, on the other hand, is.

Without APM

You’ve optimised the database queries, tweaked the caching and replaced a slow plugin API call with asynchronous processing. But how do you prove to the client what the benefits are and what it’s worth?

With APM powered by Tideways

They show concrete metrics: response time reduced from 1.4 s to 380 ms. Slow queries reduced from 23 to 4. No gut feelings, no guesswork. And a basis on which you can sell proactive performance audits as a recurring service.

When it comes to performance and loading times, APM has now become my go-to tool. For someone who manages Magento and Shopware shops and works on their own a lot, it really is ideal. I no longer need to spend time or money on other tools.

Carmen Bremen
Freelancer / Neoshops

APM is the perfect introduction to profiling: simply let it run after deployment and start gaining insights straight away, without any setup or extra licence. That’s exactly what makes it so valuable to us.

Frequently asked questions about maxclusters APM powered by Tideways

What is the difference between maxcluster APM and traditional server monitoring?

Traditional server monitoring merely shows you raw infrastructure utilisation figures such as CPU usage, RAM usage or I/O latencies. The actual behaviour of your PHP application often remains a black box.

Our integrated APM, on the other hand, provides insight into the application layer. It breaks down response times by performance layer in a matter of seconds and shows developers blocking external APIs or inefficient SQL queries – including stack traces – directly at the line-of-code level.

Does the integrated APM replace a full Tideways installation?

No, the tool serves as your concise and free ‘bird’s-eye view’ directly within the Managed Centre, providing you with a quick, comprehensive overview in your day-to-day work.

How much does it cost to set up our web agency?

There isn’t one. We take a radical ‘zero-configuration’ approach here. The tool is activated fully automatically for almost all active domains in your cluster. Only the default domain is excluded. No manual integration work is required in the code, and no external Tideways licence key is needed. Simply open your Managed Centre and the data will be there.

Where is my data stored, and is the APM GDPR-compliant?

You benefit from complete data sovereignty ‘Made in Germany’. Unlike large US-based SaaS platforms, all sensitive telemetry and performance data remains entirely within the secure and GDPR-compliant maxcluster infrastructure, without any risk of it being transferred to third countries.

How long will my performance data remain available in the dashboard?

The system distinguishes between two analysis timeframes:

  • Detailed analysis (5 days): For precise troubleshooting and quality control following deployments, high-resolution data on a minute-by-minute basis is available for the last 5 days.
  • Trend analysis (30 days): To monitor long-term performance trends and generate reports for customers, the system uses aggregated data (hourly averages) covering up to 30 days.

Is the tool really free?

The basic diagnostics module in the Managed Centre is available nationwide and is provided completely free of charge as a standard service for our customers. APM powered by Tideways can be used free of charge by all customers until 31 December 2026, regardless of the SLA they have signed up for.
