Recommendations for a DKIM record
What is a DKIM record and how does it work?
What is a DKIM record?
A DKIM record is a DNS record of type TXT, which is intended to prevent someone from impersonating your organization and sending e-mails in the name of your domain. With DKIM, you add a digital signature to your emails, based on which the receiving server can verify that the sender of the mail is really the owner of the sender domain. This signature is added to the header of your e-mail and additionally secured by encryption. Thus, the e-mails can be clearly assigned to your organization. In addition, the entry can have the effect that your e-mails are classified less as spam.
How does DKIM work?
DKIM is an e-mail authentication system that uses asymmetric encryption to verify your e-mails and thus enable their secure transmission. This involves the creation of a digital key pair, the public key and the private key.
The TXT record, which is created in the DNS zone of your domain, contains the public key that any server can view for verification. The private key, which only you know, is used to create a digital signature in the email header for each email you send.
The recipient's server retrieves the public key for the domain and tests whether it matches the private key used to create the signature. If the key pair matches, the e-mail is delivered, otherwise it is either rejected or classified as SPAM.
A possible DKIM record can look as follows:

The DKIM record improves the deliverability of your emails, protects against identity deception and reduces the risk of your emails being classified as spam. Especially in combination with SPF and DMARC you can significantly improve the deliverability and security of your emails.
If you want to secure your domain with a DKIM record, please contact our support with the name of the domain concerned. We will create the entry and place it in your DNS zone if your DNS administration is with us. Otherwise we will provide you with the entry so that you can deposit it with your provider.
